dot11gProtectionMode

Module: EXTREME-SUMMIT-WM-DOT11-EXTNS-MIB

OID (symbolic): EXTREME-SUMMIT-WM-DOT11-EXTNS-MIB::dot11gProtectionMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.5.3.1.1.5.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Configures whether and when to use Protection Mode for the 802.11g transmissions. Protection Mode helps reduce collisions with legacy 802.11b stations at the expense of additional overhead. None specifies that no protection is to be used. Auto specifies that radio will enable protection mode when it detects an 802.11b station. Always specifies that protection mode is always enabled.

What is dot11gProtectionMode?

Controls when the radio uses 802.11g Protection Mode, which reduces collisions with legacy 802.11b clients at the cost of extra overhead: none(1) disables it, auto(2) enables it only when an 802.11b station is detected, and always(3) keeps it on continuously; an admin would choose auto(2) in most mixed environments to balance compatibility and throughput.
