Description: Extreme Networks MIB for controlling and monitoring file transfer operations (TFTP/FTP) for firmware and configuration files on Extreme devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EXTREME-FILETRANSFER-MIB?

EXTREME-FILETRANSFER-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Extreme Networks, nested under the EXTREME-BASE-MIB extremeAgent tree, that controls and monitors TFTP-based upload/download operations for firmware images and configuration files on Extreme switches. Its extremeFileTransferTable, indexed by extremeFileTransferIndex (allocated via the TestAndIncr object extremeFileTransferNextAvailableIndex), configures the TFTP server address and file name, the requested operation via extremeFileTransferOperation (immediate or scheduled image download to primary/secondary store, config upload/download, once or daily), and an optional extremeFileTransferScheduledTime for deferred operations, all gated by extremeFileTransferRowStatus for row lifecycle control. Operational feedback comes from extremeFileTransferStartOperStatus (idle/scheduled/inProgress) and extremeFileTransferLastExecutionStatus, which reports granular outcomes like tftpFileNotFound, checksumError, incompatibleImage, or fileTooLarge from the prior transfer attempt. This lets an operator remotely trigger and audit firmware/config pushes across a fleet of switches and immediately see why a particular transfer failed rather than just that it did. It depends on RMON-MIB for the OwnerString type used to record who configured each transfer entry, and it is deployed on Extreme Networks switches wherever TFTP-based image/config management is used. Administrators automating Extreme firmware rollouts can download the EXTREME-FILETRANSFER-MIB file for their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-FILETRANSFER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Extreme Networks switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator creates a row in extremeFileTransferTable pointing at a TFTP server and new image file, sets extremeFileTransferOperation to downloadImageToSecondaryImmediate, then polls extremeFileTransferStartOperStatus until it leaves inProgress; an extremeFileTransferLastExecutionStatus of tftpFileNotFound or checksumError indicates the image push failed and the secondary store was not updated.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file transfer operation type and scheduled time
  • transfer in-progress/idle/scheduled status
  • last execution result (success, checksum error, file not found, etc.)
  • next available transfer table index
  • row status/ownership of configured transfer entries
