Category: Technology: WAN Optimization, Vendor: Expand Networks

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for fault and performance threshold events on Expand Networks devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EXPAND-TRAP-MIB?

EXPAND-TRAP-MIB is an Expand Networks enterprise MIB dedicated to defining SNMP trap notifications for WAN optimization appliances. Rather than exposing polled counters directly, it defines the fault and performance threshold event notifications that the device sends when conditions of interest occur. Its monitoring role is centered on software/service and performance status: it allows a management station to be alerted asynchronously to faults (such as link or process failures) and to threshold crossings on performance metrics (such as bandwidth, compression ratio, or latency), rather than requiring continuous polling. It is a companion module that depends on other Expand Networks MIBs which define the underlying performance and fault objects referenced by these traps. It is typically deployed alongside Expand Networks (later part of Riverbed) WAN optimization/acceleration appliances in enterprise branch and data center links. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the EXPAND-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXPAND-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Expand Networks WAN optimization/acceleration appliances

Monitoring Examples

No object/table names were supplied for this module (module_desc is empty and sample_objects is empty), so a concrete monitoring scenario cannot be grounded in real identifiers; in general, this type of MIB is honestly best understood as defining trap PDUs only, with the actual monitored counters and thresholds residing in a separate Expand Networks performance/fault MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fault event notifications
  • performance threshold-crossing notifications
