Category: Technology: Network Monitoring

Description: Defines SNMP objects for configuring automated actions triggered by system events or threshold crossings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EVENT-ACTIONS-MIB?

EVENT-ACTIONS-MIB is a Cabletron Systems proprietary MIB (built on CTRON-MIB-NAMES, extending the standard RMON-MIB event mechanism) defining SET-operation actions to execute when an RMON event fires. Its action table, keyed by index, records the target object's base OID, the value to SET, operational/admin status, a description, and an execution order, while an extension table adds further OID/value pairs (extension ID, OID, value, operational/admin status) for multi-step actions. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator define an automated remediation action (an SNMP SET to a specific object) that fires automatically when a monitored RMON threshold is crossed. It is deployed on Cabletron Systems equipment with RMON event/action support. Engineers can download the EVENT-ACTIONS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EVENT-ACTIONS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron Systems equipment (RMON event/action support)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator configures ctActionObjectBase and ctActionValue to automatically disable a port via SNMP SET when a specific RMON event fires on Cabletron Systems equipment.
