Description: Monitors and manages media gateway resources, call statistics, and signaling state on Ericsson platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB?
ERICSSON-ROUTER-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB is an Ericsson private MIB used to manage and monitor Media Gateway (MG) functions on Ericsson router/softswitch platforms, which handle media-plane conversion between circuit-switched and packet-switched (VoIP) networks. It is centered around event/notification objects describing MG-related faults, each carrying a timestamp, severity, sender, event type, probable cause, and free-text information. For hardware/software status monitoring this MIB is specifically a fault-reporting mechanism: it lets an operator detect and triage media gateway failures or degraded conditions as they happen, using severity and probable-cause fields to prioritize response, functioning much like structured syslog delivered via SNMP trap. It fits within Ericsson's broader router/media-gateway MIB and NOTIFICATION-TYPE conventions, depending on the standard SNMPv2 notification framework for trap delivery. It is deployed on Ericsson router-based media gateways in carrier and service-provider VoIP/telephony infrastructure. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-MEDIA-GATEWAY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson router-based media gateway
Monitoring Examples
A network operations center would subscribe to traps carrying eriRouterMGEventSeverity and eriRouterMGEventProbableCause to be alerted the instant a media gateway fault occurs, using eriRouterMGEventDateAndTime and eriRouterMGEventSender to correlate the event with other logs. The eriRouterMGEventType and eriRouterMGEventInformation fields would tell the operator, for example, whether the event represents a media-stream failure, resource exhaustion, or signaling anomaly on a specific gateway. A spike in high-severity eriRouterMGEvent traps from the same sender would indicate a media gateway experiencing a persistent hardware or software fault requiring escalation.
What Can Be Monitored
- media gateway event severity
- event probable cause
- event sender/timestamp
- event type/description
