Description: Declares Ericsson router agent capabilities for the IETF ITU Alarm MIB (RFC 3877/ITU-T X.733).

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-ITU-ALARM-CAP?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-ITU-ALARM-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module for Ericsson's SmartEdge/SM/SSR router family, describing how the device's SNMP agent implements the standard IETF ITU-ALARM-MIB (RFC 3877 / ITU-T X.733). Rather than exposing runtime data itself, it documents which alarm objects, groups, and notification variations from the base alarm MIB are actually supported by the Ericsson SEOS agent. As such it does not carry hardware/software status data directly, but it governs how alarm and fault conditions (a key part of hardware/software health monitoring) are reported by the underlying alarm MIB on this platform. It is explicitly dependent on and layered over the IETF ITU-ALARM-MIB standard. It is deployed alongside the base alarm MIB whenever a management station needs to know the exact capability profile of an Ericsson SEOS-based router before polling or subscribing to alarm data. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-ITU-ALARM-CAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-ITU-ALARM-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet platform
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)

Monitoring Examples

This module is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES definition with no runtime data objects of its own, so it does not expose pollable counters or status values. Instead it declares, via PRODUCT-RELEASE and SUPPORTS clauses, which parts of the IETF ITU-ALARM-MIB (such as alarm tables and notifications) a given Ericsson SEOS release actually implements for the SmartEdge (SE), SM, or SSR product families. A management application would consult this capabilities statement to know which alarm objects are safe to poll on a specific router before doing so against the real alarm MIB.
