Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Ericsson Router DHCP server and relay MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-CAP?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-CAP is an Ericsson AB Agent Capabilities MIB that declares which object groups of the companion ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-MIB a given SEOS/AOS software release actually implements on Ericsson's SmartEdge (SE), SM, and Smart Service Router (SSR) product families. Rather than defining its own managed objects, it publishes AGENT-CAPABILITIES statements (eriRouterDhcpMibCap1/2/3), each tied to a specific PRODUCT-RELEASE string, that list which threshold and notification groups (eriRouterDhcpThresholdGroup, eriRouterDhcpCtxThresholdGroup, eriRouterDhcpRangeThresholdGroup, eriRouterDhcpLeaseFileFailureTrapGroup, and their corresponding notify groups) are supported, and mark specific interface-level threshold objects (eriRouterDhcpIntfThreshold*) as not-implemented on later releases. This lets an NMS or MIB-compiler determine in advance which DHCP server/relay threshold and lease-file-failure monitoring capabilities are available before attempting to poll them on a given device. It depends entirely on the ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-MIB it documents and the ERICSSON-ROUTER-SMI enterprise tree, and it is deployed conceptually alongside those MIBs on Ericsson SmartEdge/SM/SSR routers running DHCP server or relay functionality for ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-CAP MIB based capability negotiation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-DHCP-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge (SE), SM, and Smart Service Router (SSR) platforms

Monitoring Examples

Before polling DHCP threshold objects on an Ericsson SmartEdge router, an NMS checks which eriRouterDhcpMibCapN entry matches the router's reported SEOS/AOS version to see whether eriRouterDhcpRangeThresholdGroup is supported; discovering that eriRouterDhcpIntfThreshold* objects are marked not-implemented for that release would prevent the NMS from wasting polling cycles on unsupported interface-level DHCP thresholds.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported DHCP threshold group per software release
  • supported DHCP threshold notification group
  • supported lease-file-failure trap/notify group
  • per-object implementation status (VARIATION not-implemented) for interface DHCP thresholds
