Description: Eltex MES SNMP community extension MIB for managing community strings, access rights, and view-based access control.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ELTEX-MES-SNMP-COMMUNITY-EXT-MIB?

ELTEX-MES-SNMP-COMMUNITY-EXT-MIB is an Eltex proprietary MIB for its MES series switches, extending standard SNMP community-string management with vendor-specific access-control options. It exposes a table of configured community strings along with their associated access list/permission settings, mirroring and extending the community-to-security-name mapping found in the standard SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB. Its purpose is software configuration and security status monitoring: administrators check eltSnmpCommunityTable entries to confirm which community strings are provisioned, what access list restricts their use, and whether any unauthorized or overly permissive community configuration exists that could weaken SNMP security. It explicitly extends the IETF SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB and depends on the SNMP engine's Local Configuration Datastore (LCD) referenced in its description. It is deployed on Eltex MES access/aggregation switches where administrators need finer-grained control over SNMP community-based access than the standard MIB alone provides. Engineers can download the ELTEX-MES-SNMP-COMMUNITY-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-SNMP-COMMUNITY-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eltex MES switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll eltSnmpCommunityTable/eltSnmpCommunityEntry to enumerate configured communities and check eltSnmpCommunityAccessList for each, verifying that a given community string is restricted to an expected access list rather than granting broader read/write access than intended. Discovering a community entry with no access-list restriction, or an unexpected community present in the table, would indicate a security misconfiguration requiring immediate correction on the switch.
