What Is EDGE-MIB?

This enterprise MIB provides operating-system-level performance and resource monitoring for an "edge" server/appliance platform, modeled closely on Windows-style performance counters. It exposes a server statistics table covering processor load, interrupt rate, disk usage percentage and free space, disk I/O time breakdowns, memory utilization, and page-fault rate for each monitored server instance. This is squarely hardware/software status monitoring data: it lets an operator track CPU load, memory pressure, disk space exhaustion, and disk I/O bottlenecks on the edge device, which are classic early-warning indicators of performance degradation or impending failure. It appears to parallel the structure of the Host Resources MIB or Windows perfmon counters translated into SNMP, though implemented as a private vendor extension rather than importing those standards directly. It is typically deployed on edge/network-attached-storage appliances or gateway servers where administrators need SNMP-based OS resource monitoring, making the EDGE-MIB MIB a practical stand-in for OS-level performance counters on these appliances.

Polling edgeServerStatTable/edgeServerStatEntry by edgeSsIndex, an admin can track edgeSsProcessorTime and edgeSsMemoryPercentUsed to spot CPU or memory exhaustion on the edge server. Checking edgeSsDiskPercentUsed and edgeSsFreeMegabytes reveals impending disk-space exhaustion, while a spike in edgeSsPageFaultsPerSec or edgeSsPercentDiskTime can indicate memory thrashing or a disk I/O bottleneck degrading performance.
