What Is Dell-rndApplications?

This private MIB defines application-layer network-management services for Dell devices built on the RAD-derived "rnd" embedded management stack, providing a lightweight polling/alarm framework for monitoring other network elements from the device itself. It exposes a table of monitored remote elements (address, SNMP community, label) along with default polling interval and log file settings, and per-element/per-object alarm enabling and status. As a monitoring/fault-detection tool it is directly about hardware/software status: rndMonitoredElementStatus reports whether a polled remote element is currently reachable/healthy, rndAlarmEnabling and rndAlarmOptions control whether alarms fire on state changes, and rndMonitoredObjectIdentifier lets the device poll an arbitrary OID (e.g. uptime, temperature) on a monitored peer. It relies on standard SNMP GET polling of arbitrary OIDs on other devices, effectively layering a mini-NMS on top of standard SNMP. It is used in Dell RND-based network gear that performs secondary/peer monitoring of other network elements in a small deployment without a full NMS. Engineers can download the Dell-rndApplications file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-rndApplications. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator configuring peer monitoring would populate rndMonitoredElementsTable/rndMonitoredElementEntry with rndMonitoredElementAddress, rndMonitoredElementCommunity and rndMonitoredElementLabel for each remote device to watch, then poll rndMonitoredElementStatus to see current reachability. rndDefaultPollingInterval would be checked to confirm polling frequency, and rndAlarmEnabling/rndAlarmInterval to verify alarms are active for a status change. A monitored element flipping to a down/unreachable status in rndMonitoredElementStatus would indicate the peer device has stopped responding to SNMP.
