What Is Dell-VRTX-DOT1X-MIB?

Dell-VRTX-DOT1X-MIB is a Dell private MIB for configuring and monitoring IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control on the integrated switch module of the Dell PowerEdge VRTX converged infrastructure chassis. It exposes per-session authentication statistics, guest VLAN and unauthenticated VLAN configuration, and user-based VLAN assignment settings, mirroring Dell's standard 802.1X MIB but scoped to the VRTX's embedded switch. Its monitoring focus is software/protocol status: session authentication method/statistics and guest/unauthenticated-VLAN membership reveal whether ports are authenticating successfully or falling back to restricted access due to 802.1X failures. This MIB depends on and complements the IEEE 802.1X standard and coexists with the VRTX chassis's broader switch management MIBs. It is deployed on the embedded I/O switch module within Dell PowerEdge VRTX converged chassis in blade/converged-infrastructure enterprise environments. A blade server port unexpectedly landing in the guest VLAN would point to a certificate or supplicant misconfiguration on that blade.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rldot1xAuthMultiEapolFramesRx OID:

Select a Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rldot1xAuthMultiEapolFramesRx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of valid EAPOL frames of any type that have been received by this Authenticator. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
