Description: Contains Dell private enterprise MIB objects for proprietary device features and configurations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-Private-MIB?

Dell-Private-MIB is a Dell proprietary top-level MIB holding miscellaneous private enterprise objects for device-wide operational mode and global IP addressing configuration on Dell network switches. It exposes an operational-mode state object and a table of global IP addresses assigned to the device, along with a security-related user-cleanup setting. Its monitoring relevance is checking the device's overall operating mode (a software-level state indicator) and its management IP addressing, useful during initial provisioning and troubleshooting connectivity or mode-related behavior differences. It is a self-contained vendor MIB serving as a catch-all for objects not organized under Dell's more specific feature MIBs. It is deployed on Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches as part of baseline device configuration and provisioning checks. Engineers can download the Dell-Private-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-Private-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/Networking switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll rlOperationalModeState to confirm which operating mode the switch is currently running in, and check rlGlobalIpAddrTable/rlGlobalIpAddrEntry (indexed by rlGlobalIpAdIndex) for rlGlobalIpAdEntAddr, rlGlobalIpAdEntNetMask, and rlGlobalIpAdDefaultGateway to verify the device's management IP configuration is correct after provisioning. rlDeleteUsersAfterReset indicates whether local user accounts are purged on a factory reset, a relevant security-hardening setting to audit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • operational mode state
  • global IP address configuration
  • default gateway setting
  • user-cleanup-on-reset setting
