Category: Domain: Security, Standard: IEEE 802

Description: Manages advanced IEEE 802.1X features including guest VLAN, multi-authentication, and MAB on network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DOT1X-ADVANCED-FEATURES-MIB?

DOT1X-ADVANCED-FEATURES-MIB is a vendor private MIB extending IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control with advanced enterprise switch features such as guest VLAN assignment, multi-host/multi-authentication modes, and MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB). It exposes configuration-oriented data covering per-port 802.1X policy enhancements rather than raw traffic counters. Its main monitoring value is in verifying the operational configuration and enablement state of these advanced authentication features on a per-agent basis, essentially a software/feature-configuration status check rather than hardware health telemetry. It depends on and extends the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB (the base 802.1X MIB), adding vendor-specific enhancement objects on top of it. It is deployed on enterprise access-layer switches that use 802.1X for network access control alongside guest and fallback authentication mechanisms. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the DOT1X-ADVANCED-FEATURES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DOT1X-ADVANCED-FEATURES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • enterprise network switch (802.1X-capable)

Monitoring Examples

The single sample object, agentDot1xEnhancementConfigGroup, is a group-level container used to organize the advanced 802.1X configuration objects (such as guest-VLAN and MAB enablement) under this module; specific leaf objects beneath it would be polled to confirm whether guest VLAN or MAB is active on a given port. Given the limited object detail available, this MIB appears to be primarily a configuration/status extension rather than a rich runtime statistics source. An admin would typically cross-reference it with the base dot1x port state table to see if enhanced fallback behavior triggered on a port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • 802.1X advanced feature enablement
  • guest VLAN configuration state
  • MAC authentication bypass status
