Description: Manages Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) for detecting and disabling one-way links on Dell DNOS switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DNOS-UDLD-MIB?

DNOS-UDLD-MIB is a Dell Networking private MIB that manages Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) on switches running Dell's DNOS, a protocol feature that detects and shuts down links only passing traffic in one direction, a common symptom of a faulty fiber pair or transceiver. It exposes global UDLD settings (agentUdldGlobalMode, agentUdldMessageInterval, agentUdldTimeoutInterval) and a per-interface table (agentUdldInterfaceTable) with administrative mode and aggressive-mode settings alongside operational status. From a monitoring perspective, agentUdldInterfaceOperStatus is the key hardware/link-health indicator: it reveals whether a given link has detected a unidirectional fault and been placed into an err-disabled/blocking state, a direct sign of a physical layer (cabling or optics) problem rather than a software configuration change. It builds on the switch's underlying interface/link infrastructure (IF-MIB style ifIndex-based tables) since UDLD operates per physical or logical interface. It is deployed on Dell DNOS switches interconnected by fiber links, particularly in data center and campus core/aggregation layers where mis-wired or degraded fiber pairs must be caught automatically, and network teams can get the DNOS-UDLD-MIB download to load directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DNOS-UDLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Networking switch running DNOS

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling agentUdldInterfaceTable/agentUdldInterfaceEntry can compare agentUdldInterfaceAdminMode (enabled/disabled) against agentUdldInterfaceOperStatus to find interfaces where UDLD is administratively enabled but operationally reporting a unidirectional fault, indicating a bad fiber strand or mismatched transceiver. Checking agentUdldInterfaceAggresiveMode shows whether the stricter aggressive-mode detection is active on sensitive links. Globally, agentUdldMessageInterval and agentUdldTimeoutInterval reveal how quickly the feature will detect and react to a failure, and agentUdldReset can clear a link's err-disabled state after the physical fault is repaired.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UDLD operational status per interface
  • UDLD admin mode/aggressive mode per interface
  • global UDLD message/timeout interval
  • unidirectional link fault detection
