Category: Technology: Bridging, Technology: Multicast, Vendor: D-Link

Description: Manages multicast bridging and forwarding table entries for Layer 2 multicast on D-Link 3100 series switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINK-3100-rlBrgMulticast-MIB?

This is a D-Link proprietary MIB for the 3100 series switches covering Layer 2 multicast bridging, specifically IGMP/MLD snooping and MAC multicast forwarding control. It exposes configuration and status data such as whether MAC multicast bridging and IGMP snooping are enabled, aging timers for hosts and routers, per-VLAN IGMP version, and tables of active multicast groups and their member ports. For monitoring hardware/software status, it lets an operator confirm the multicast-snooping feature is actually running and healthy; checking the membership table shows whether expected multicast streams (e.g., IPTV) are being properly pruned to only the ports that joined, and an empty or stale table can reveal a snooping or aging-timer misconfiguration. It is a vendor-private extension that builds on the standard bridge/IGMP snooping concepts found in IETF's BRIDGE-MIB and IGMP-STD-MIB rather than directly importing them. It is used on D-Link 3100 series switches deployed in networks running IPTV, video conferencing, or other multicast-heavy applications where efficient Layer 2 multicast pruning matters, and administrators can download the DLINK-3100-rlBrgMulticast-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-rlBrgMulticast-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link 3100 series managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin can check rlIgmpSnoopEnable and rlMacMulticastEnable to confirm snooping is active, then walk rlIgmpSnoopMembershipTable to see which ports have joined which multicast groups. The rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvTable/rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvEntry rows (indexed by rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvVID and rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvGroup) show configured multicast TV channel-to-VLAN mappings and their rlIgmpSnoopMulticastTvStatus, letting an admin verify a channel is correctly provisioned. Unexpectedly long entries in the membership table combined with a very high rlIgmpSnoopHostAgingTime could indicate stale joins that are flooding multicast traffic to ports that no longer want it.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP/MLD snooping enable state
  • MAC multicast bridging enable state
  • multicast group membership per port/VLAN
  • host/router aging timers
  • multicast TV channel-to-VLAN mapping status
