Organization: Aperto Networks
Last Updated: 2001-05-09
Category: Device Management
Description: Manages device control operations including resets, mode changes, and operational commands.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DEVCONTROL-MIB?
DEVCONTROL-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB providing device control operations for the same BSU/SU (Base Station Unit / Subscriber Unit) wireless broadband product family as related 'ani' MIBs. It exposes actionable objects for resetting the device, restoring factory default configuration, and managing firmware upload operations. Rather than exposing sensor data, its monitoring relevance is operational: an administrator can track aniDevControlUploadState to confirm a firmware upload completed successfully, which is a software-status indicator, and can audit whether a reset or factory-default action was recently triggered. It has no explicit dependency on other standard MIBs based on the available description. It is typically deployed alongside DEVBASE-MIB and DEVETHERNET-MIB on BSU/SU wireless access units for remote maintenance operations. Engineers can download the DEVCONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEVCONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- fixed wireless Base Station Unit (BSU)
- fixed wireless Subscriber Unit (SU)
- Aperto Networks BSU/SU wireless broadband access units
Monitoring Examples
An administrator initiating a firmware update would set aniDevControlStartUpload and then poll aniDevControlUploadState to confirm the upload transitions from in-progress to complete rather than stalling or failing partway through. aniDevControlResetDevice and aniDevControlSetFactoryDefaults are write-triggered control objects used to remotely reboot a unit or wipe its configuration back to defaults during a maintenance window. Because this MIB is primarily action-oriented, monitoring here mainly consists of confirming a triggered operation's state object reflects successful completion.
What Can Be Monitored
- firmware upload state
- device reset/control trigger status
- factory-default restore trigger status
