Description: Covers L2 switching, VLANs, STP, and port security on the D-Link DES-3028 switch.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DES3028-L2MGMT-MIB?

DES3028-L2MGMT-MIB is a D-Link, Inc. enterprise MIB providing Layer 2 switch management for the DES-3028/3052 (and PoE 'p' variant) switch family, covering device control, per-port configuration, and QoS alongside the standard IF-MIB/BRIDGE-MIB objects. The swL2DevCtrl branch exposes system-level toggles such as IGMP snooping, RMON, LLDP (with an LLDP-disabled forward-message option), VLAN trunking, and MAC address-change notification, while swL2PortCtrlTable configures per-port admin state, N-way speed/duplex negotiation, flow control, address learning, and MDIX mode. Fault and security visibility comes from swL2PortErrTable, which records why a port was error-disabled (stp-lbd, storm-control, ddm, duld) and from spanning-tree-related alarm toggles (swL2DevAlarmNewRoot, swL2DevAlarmTopologyChange, swL2DevAlarmLinkChange), plus per-port/per-priority QoS controls in the swL2QOSMgmt branch (bandwidth rate limiting, 802.1p scheduling and priority mapping, including RADIUS-assigned overrides). It depends on the SWPRIMGMT-DES30XXP-MIB enterprise tree for its OID placement and on RFC1213-MIB/SNMPv2-TC for base types, and it is deployed on D-Link DES-3028/3052 series switches, and administrators can download the DES3028-L2MGMT-MIB file to manage or monitor these switches' Layer 2 behavior.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DES3028-L2MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DES-3028/3052 switch family (including PoE variants)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swL2PortErrPortStatus and swL2PortErrPortReason for each port to spot err-disabled ports, and checks swL2PortInfoLinkStatus alongside swL2DevAlarmTopologyChange; a port stuck err-disabled with reason stp-lbd(1) together with recent topology-change alarms would indicate an STP loopback condition disabling a port to protect the network.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port error-disable status and reason (loopback, storm-control, DDM, DULD)
  • port admin/link/speed-duplex status
  • spanning-tree new-root and topology-change alarms
  • per-port bandwidth rate limiting
  • 802.1p priority/scheduling configuration
  • IGMP snooping, LLDP, and VLAN trunking state
