Category: Vendor: DEC/Digital

Description: Manages port-to-ring module (PTRM) configuration for DEC HUB 900 series chassis.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DECHUB900-PTRM-MIB-V3-0?

DECHUB900-PTRM-MIB-V3-0 is Digital Equipment Corporation's MIB (decHub900(11).ptrm(3), under the dec.ema.decMIBextension enterprise tree) for the Token Ring linecards (Port-to-Ring Modules, PTRM) in the DEChub900 MultiSwitch chassis, implemented by the hub's Hub Manager. The ptrmBase group exposes chassis-wide settings (ptrmBaseForceSpeed, ptrmBaseSpeed, ptrmBaseNumLobes), while ptrmTrunkTable and ptrmLobeTable expose per-port state for trunk and lobe (end-station) connections — operational/administrative status, media type, auto-wrap and auto-partition state, and detected ring speed (ptrmTrunkOperStatus, ptrmTrunkAdminStatus, ptrmTrunkAutoWrapEnable, ptrmTrunkAutoPartitionStatus, ptrmTrunkDetectedSpeed, and their ptrmLobe* counterparts). The ptrmMacTable maps ring interfaces to their MAC addresses and position (ptrmMacRingInterface, ptrmMacAddress, ptrmMacPosition), and ptrmMultiBp models the backplane port topology used to interconnect multiple ring modules (ptrmMultiBpPortSpeed, ptrmMultiBpPortForceSpeed). This MIB is essentially a Token Ring physical-layer status and configuration MIB, useful for diagnosing beaconing, auto-partitioning, or speed-mismatch problems on a DEChub900 ring. It depends only on RFC1155-SMI for its enterprises OID root. Anyone maintaining legacy DEChub900 Token Ring hardware can find a DECHUB900-PTRM-MIB-V3-0 download to poll trunk and lobe port health.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DECHUB900-PTRM-MIB-V3-0. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Digital Equipment Corporation DEChub900 MultiSwitch chassis with Token Ring Port-to-Ring Module (PTRM) linecards

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls ptrmTrunkOperStatus and ptrmTrunkAutoPartitionStatus for each trunk port to confirm the Token Ring is intact and no port has auto-partitioned itself off the ring; a trunk showing an auto-partitioned status alongside a detected speed mismatch (ptrmTrunkDetectedSpeed) would point to a cabling or speed-configuration fault isolating that segment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trunk and lobe port operational/admin status
  • auto-wrap and auto-partition state per port
  • detected vs. configured ring speed
  • MAC address to ring-interface mapping
  • backplane port speed and topology
