Category: Hardware and Environment
Description: Manages field-replaceable unit (FRU) inventory and status for DCS3 chassis systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DCS3FRU-MIB?
DCS3FRU-MIB is a Dell Inc. Systems Management MIB (under the dell/server3/baseboardGroup enterprise tree, part of Dell's DCS3/PowerEdge server management suite) that reports Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) inventory and health for a chassis's replaceable hardware components. Its single fruTable, indexed by fruChassisIndex and fruIndex, exposes fruInformationStatus (a DellStatus severity: ok/nonCritical/critical/nonRecoverable) and fruInformationState (whether the FRU's EEPROM-style information is ok, unsupported, unavailable, checksum-invalid, or corrupted) alongside identification fields fruDeviceName, fruManufacturerName, fruSerialNumberName, fruPartNumberName, fruRevisionName, fruManufacturingDateName, and fruAssetTagName. Because fruInformationState governs whether the other identification fields are even populated, monitoring this MIB is as much about data integrity as component health. It depends on Dell's baseboardGroup enterprise framework shared across other DCS3 server-management MIBs and is deployed on Dell DCS3-class server chassis; administrators download the DCS3FRU-MIB file to poll FRU presence and status for asset-tracking and hardware-fault alerting.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DCS3FRU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell DCS3-class server chassis
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls fruInformationStatus for each row in fruTable, and a value of critical(5) or nonRecoverable(6) on a given fruChassisIndex/fruIndex pair would indicate a field-replaceable component - reported by fruDeviceName - needs physical replacement.
What Can Be Monitored
- FRU information status severity
- FRU information state/checksum validity
- FRU device/manufacturer/serial/part identification
- FRU manufacturing date and asset tag
