Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys
Description: Manages Cabletron router product configuration including interfaces, routing protocols, and system parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CTRON-ROUTERS-MIB?
CTRON-ROUTERS-MIB is a Cabletron MIB covering the company's router product line, exposing a system-level table that identifies each router instance, its administrative and operational status, and the specific standard routing-protocol MIBs supported on that device. It surfaces configuration and operational-state data such as router admin/oper status and revision tracking for the MIB itself. Its monitoring value centers on device/software status: nwRouterAdminStatus and nwRouterOperStatus let an operator confirm whether a routing instance is administratively enabled and actually operational, revealing hardware or software faults preventing routing service. It explicitly ties into other standard routing MIBs since nwRtrStdMibTable enumerates which standard MIBs (e.g., OSPF, RIP) a given router instance implements. It is deployed on Cabletron router platforms in enterprise environments running standard IP routing protocols. Engineers can download the CTRON-ROUTERS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-ROUTERS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron router
Monitoring Examples
An operator polling nwRouterSystemTable/nwRouterEntry would check nwRouterAdminStatus against nwRouterOperStatus for each nwRouterInstance to detect a router that's administratively up but operationally down, indicating a hardware or software fault. nwRtrStdMibTable/nwRtrStdMibEntry (indexed by nwRtrStdMibIndex) reveals which standard routing protocol MIBs (identified via nwRtrStdMibIdentifier) are active, useful before attempting further protocol-specific polling. nwRtrAdminChanges tracks the count of administrative configuration changes, helping correlate a status change with a recent reconfiguration.
What Can Be Monitored
- router instance admin/operational status
- supported standard routing protocol MIBs
- administrative change count
- router MIB revision
