Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Configures Cabletron framer hardware parameters for WAN interfaces including T1/E1 framing and line coding.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTFRAMER-CONFIG-MIB?

CTFRAMER-CONFIG-MIB is a Cabletron (later Enterasys) Networks MIB that configures framer hardware on WAN interface modules, covering T1/E1, DS3, and SONET framing and line-coding parameters. It exposes a core framer configuration table (ctFramerConfigTable/Entry) plus dedicated sub-configuration groups for statistics, alarms, transmission medium, idle-cell handling, ATM cell-payload scrambling, and DS3/SONET-specific framing modes. While primarily a configuration MIB, its ctFramerStatsConfig and ctFramerAlarmsConfig objects tie directly into physical-layer fault monitoring, letting an operator watch framing/line alarms and error statistics that reflect hardware health of the WAN circuit. It parallels standard DS1/E1, DS3, and SONET/SDH MIB concepts and is typically used alongside the equivalent IETF MIBs for those technologies. It is deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys WAN edge or aggregation devices carrying T1/E1/DS3/SONET circuits, and administrators can download the CTFRAMER-CONFIG-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for framer configuration monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTFRAMER-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys WAN interface module or router

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ctFramerConfigTable/ctFramerConfigEntry to check a given framer's mode, using ctFramerDS3Config or ctFramerSonetConfig entries to confirm whether DS3 or SONET framing is active on a port. Checking ctFramerAlarmsConfig alongside the framer's live alarm state would reveal a loss-of-frame or line-code violation indicating a bad WAN circuit or cabling fault. ctFramerCellPayScramConfig and ctFramerIdleCellsConfig govern ATM cell-level framing parameters relevant when the port carries ATM over T1/E1/DS3.

What Can Be Monitored

  • framer configuration/mode
  • line/framing alarms
  • framer statistics
  • DS3 framing parameters
  • SONET framing parameters
