Description: Manages call admission control system-wide bandwidth and resource policies on Cisco voice platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-CAC-SYSTEM-MIB?

CISCO-CAC-SYSTEM-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for provisioning and monitoring system-wide Call Admission Control (CAC) on Cisco voice gateway and call-processing platforms, governing how the device throttles or rejects calls when bandwidth or resources are constrained. It exposes configuration objects for enabling CAC and notifications, defining rejection treatment (busy tone, reject code, ISDN cause code, or a play-message file), and tuning sliding-window call-spike detection parameters, alongside gateway resource tables. Its monitoring value lies in tracking call-admission software state and resource pressure: whether CAC is currently enabled and actively rejecting calls, what treatment is applied to rejected calls, and gateway resource utilization, which together reveal voice-trunk or DSP resource exhaustion before it causes widespread call failures. It builds on Cisco's broader voice/gateway MIB set (its resource tables relate to gateway DSP/resource management covered elsewhere in Cisco's voice MIBs). It is typically deployed on Cisco voice gateways, unified border elements, or call-control platforms handling VoIP/TDM call admission. Engineers can download the CISCO-CAC-SYSTEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CAC-SYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco voice gateway
  • Cisco unified border element/call-control platform

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ccacSysConfigTable/ccacSysConfigEntry to check ccacSysCacEnable and ccacSysNotifyEnable, confirming CAC is active and will notify on rejection events, then inspect ccacSysTreatment together with ccacSysRejectCode/ccacSysIsdnRejectCode to see how calls are being handled when admission is denied. ccacSysSlidingWindowSteps and ccacSysSlidingWindowSize would be reviewed when tuning how aggressively the system detects a call-spike, and ccacSysCallSpike itself flags when a spike condition has been triggered, indicating the gateway is under unusual call load. ccacSysGatewayResTable provides per-gateway resource utilization backing the admission decisions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CAC enable/notify status
  • call rejection treatment and reject codes
  • call-spike detection state
  • sliding-window spike parameters
  • gateway resource utilization

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ccacSysRsExceedCount OID:

Select a Cisco voice gateway / unified border element as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ccacSysRsExceedCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object is the accumulated number of ccacSysRsState state transitions to 'thresholdExceed(2)' were detected since system startup. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
