This read-only counter tracks the number of Errored Seconds (ES) encountered on a SONET or SDH Section during the current performance monitoring bin (time interval). An Errored Second is a 1-second interval in which at least one bit error occurs in the transmission, indicating signal quality degradation. A network operator monitoring link quality would watch this counter to detect section-level transmission problems and determine if optical or electrical signals need investigation.
