This PerfCounter64 counts Path Alarm Indication Signal Seconds encountered by an E3/T3 interface in the current bin, i.e. seconds an upstream failure was relayed downstream as an AIS pattern. An admin treats a live rise in path AIS as a sign that the fault lies upstream of this DS3/E3 interface rather than at the interface itself. If e3t3StatsPathAISs begins accumulating on a DS3 drop feeding a customer, the admin's next step is checking the upstream backbone segment rather than the customer-facing card.
