cmEthernetNetPortThresholdVarOptVariance
Module: CM-PERFORMANCE-MIB
OID (symbolic): CM-PERFORMANCE-MIB::cmEthernetNetPortThresholdVarOptVariance
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2544.1.12.5.1.8.1.2
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Integer32
Access: read-write
Description: Variance in the Optical Power Transmitted (in dbM), beyond which threshold crossing alert will be generated.
What is cmEthernetNetPortThresholdVarOptVariance?
This read-write Integer32 sets the allowed variance in Optical Power Transmitted (in dBm) beyond which a threshold-crossing alert is generated, exactly as the MIB describes. An admin uses it to catch a fiber transceiver drifting away from its own baseline before the link fails outright, rather than only alarming on an absolute floor. Setting cmEthernetNetPortThresholdVarOptVariance to 6 dB on network (uplink) port 25 means that transceiver's optical power has to wander that far from its established baseline before the operator gets paged.
