Description: Extends IP layer management including ARP, routing table, and IP parameters on Cisco Small Business devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-rlIP-MIB?
This Cisco Small Business proprietary MIB extends standard IP-layer management with vendor-specific objects covering IP address assignment (including IPv6 auto-configured addresses), address origin tracking, and address lifecycle timestamps. It exposes primarily configuration and address-table data: per-interface IP addresses, their type (IPv4/IPv6), origin (manual, DHCP, link-layer, random), prefix, and row status, plus creation/last-changed timestamps. While not a hardware-health MIB, its address tables let an operator monitor whether interfaces have obtained or retained expected addresses, useful for diagnosing IP connectivity/configuration problems, and the row-status and timestamp fields reveal recent configuration churn. It closely parallels and extends the IETF IP-MIB (RFC 4293)/IP-ADDRESS-MIB conventions for representing IP addresses per interface. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches/routers that need to track both static and dynamically assigned (including SLAAC IPv6) addresses per interface, and a CISCOSB-rlIP-MIB download provides the object definitions needed to poll this address data.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-rlIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business managed switch/router
Monitoring Examples
Polling rlIpAddressTable for a given rlIpAddressIfIndex returns rlIpAddressAddr and rlIpAddressAddrType, with rlIpAddressOrigin indicating whether the address was manually configured or auto-derived (e.g., from an rlIpAddressGeneralPrefixName for IPv6); an admin would check this to confirm an interface picked up the expected prefix. rlIpAddressLastChanged reveals if an address was recently modified, which combined with rlIpAddressStatus (active vs. notInService) helps diagnose why a device suddenly lost or changed its IP address.
What Can Be Monitored
- interface IP address assignment
- IPv4/IPv6 address type
- address origin (static/DHCP/SLAAC)
- address row status
- address creation/last-changed time
