Category: Vendor: Cisco

Description: Manages serial port baud rate settings on Cisco Small Business switches and routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCOSB-BaudRate-MIB?

CISCOSB-BaudRate-MIB is a private Cisco Small Business MIB controlling the serial console (RS-232) port baud rate settings on small-business switches and routers. It exposes a small set of configuration/status scalars covering the MIB's own version, whether auto-baud-rate detection is enabled, whether that setting persists after a reset, and the currently configured baud rate. Its monitoring relevance is narrow but useful for out-of-band management: confirming the configured baud rate matches the rate a technician's terminal emulator expects, and checking auto-baud status/persistence-after-reset to understand whether the device will renegotiate console speed automatically after a reboot, both directly affecting whether a technician can reach the console after a power cycle. It is a vendor-private extension with no dependency on other standard MIBs beyond base SNMPv2-SMI conventions. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business (Sx-series) switches and routers where technicians access the device via a serial console cable configured through the CISCOSB-BaudRate-MIB MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-BaudRate-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Small Business switch
  • Cisco Small Business router

Monitoring Examples

An operator preparing to console into a Cisco Small Business switch would check rlRs232BaudRate to confirm the currently configured serial speed and rlRs232AutoBaudRateStatus to see if auto-detection is enabled, explaining why a terminal session at the wrong fixed baud rate fails to display output. rlRs232AutoBaudRateStatusAfterReset indicates whether that auto-detect behavior will persist through the next reboot, useful when troubleshooting console access after a device restart. rlRs232MibVersion simply identifies the MIB revision implemented by the device's firmware.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured console baud rate
  • auto-baud-rate detection status
  • auto-baud persistence after reset
