What Is CISCO-WAN-FEEDER-MIB?
CISCO-WAN-FEEDER-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. enterprise MIB (under ciscoWan, imported from CISCOWAN-SMI) for configuring and monitoring feeder connections on ATM switch modules such as Cisco's BPX/IGX/MGX WAN switching platforms. Its single cwfFeederTable, indexed by an ATM virtual interface's ifIndex, models an external feeder switch (or XLMI-connected non-feeder device) that lacks native PNNI support and instead relies on a Local/Extended Management Interface (LMI/XLMI) to advertise connection information; each row carries the feeder's name, LAN and network IP addresses, remote shelf/slot/port location, feeder type (IPX, BPX, IGX, UNI, APS, VSI Controller, PAR, or non-feeder), model number, LMI admin/operational status, a hierarchical node-alarm severity (clear/minor/major/critical/unknown), row-status-based row creation/deletion, and an LMI-type flag distinguishing true feeder connections from XLMI. This gives an operator a single view of which external ATM switches are aggregated onto a WAN backbone trunk via LMI, whether each feeder link is administratively and operationally up, and whether the feeder node itself is currently alarmed. It depends on the underlying ATM virtual interface (ifType atmVirtual) being configured on the switch module. It is deployed on Cisco (originally StrataCom) BPX/IGX/MGX-family ATM WAN switches acting as feeder aggregation points, and administrators can download the CISCO-WAN-FEEDER-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-FEEDER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco (StrataCom-heritage) BPX/IGX/MGX-family ATM WAN switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cwfFeederTable's cwfLMIOperStatus for a given cwfFeederIfNum to confirm the LMI link to an external feeder is up, and checks cwfFeederNodeAlarm for that row; an operational-up LMI status combined with a major or critical cwfFeederNodeAlarm would indicate the feeder node itself is degraded even though its LMI connectivity to the backbone switch is intact.
What Can Be Monitored
- feeder LMI admin/operational status
- feeder node alarm severity
- feeder type and remote shelf/slot/port location
- feeder row creation/deletion status
- LMI type (feeder vs. XLMI)
