Description: Manages Cisco WAN ATM preferred route configurations for explicit path selection in ATM networks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-WAN-ATM-PREF-ROUTE-MIB?
CISCO-WAN-ATM-PREF-ROUTE-MIB manages preferred-route configuration for ATM connections on Cisco WAN switching platforms, letting operators define explicit paths (sequences of nodes and ports) that an ATM connection should prefer over the network's default dynamic routing. It exposes a route table (cwaPrefRouteConfTable) describing each preferred route and a nested element table (cwaPrefRouteNwElemTable) listing the ordered node/port hops that make up the path. Its monitoring role is largely configuration/state verification: an operator checks cwaPrefRouteRowStatus and cwaPrefRouteNwElemRowStatus to confirm a preferred route is active and correctly provisioned, since a route stuck in a non-active row status indicates a configuration or path-availability fault rather than a hardware failure per se. It is a Cisco-specific WAN switching MIB with no direct dependency on IETF ATM standards beyond general ATM addressing concepts. It is used in Cisco MGX/BPX ATM WAN cores where traffic engineering requires explicit path control. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-ATM-PREF-ROUTE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-ATM-PREF-ROUTE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco MGX/BPX WAN ATM switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator would inspect cwaPrefRouteConfTable entries by cwaPrefRouteId, checking cwaPrefRouteNwElemCount against the actual number of rows in cwaPrefRouteNwElemTable to verify the full path was provisioned, then walk cwaPrefRouteNwElemPos/cwaPrefRouteNwElemNodeId/cwaPrefRouteNwElemPortId in order to confirm the intended node-by-node path. A cwaPrefRouteRowStatus other than active suggests the preferred route failed to come up, likely falling back to default routing.
What Can Be Monitored
- preferred route configuration and status
- route element count
- ordered node/port hop sequence
- row status of route and element entries
