Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco Virtual Port Channel (vPC) feature on Nexus switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VPC-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-VPC-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which parts of CISCO-VPC-MIB (Virtual Port Channel, a Cisco NX-OS feature for dual-homed link aggregation across two Nexus switches) a particular device/software release implements. It contains no managed objects of its own; instead it enumerates supported object groups and compliance statements for the vPC feature. Its practical monitoring role is indirect: NMS tools consult it to know whether vPC peer-status, consistency-check, or role objects are queryable on a given Nexus platform before polling, rather than exposing uptime, temperature, or counters directly. It depends entirely on and has no meaning apart from CISCO-VPC-MIB, which defines the actual vPC domain, peer-link, and consistency-check objects. It is relevant wherever Cisco Nexus switches are deployed in vPC dual-homed topologies for data-center network redundancy. Engineers can download the CISCO-VPC-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VPC-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral capabilities declaration — applies to Cisco Nexus switches running vPC

Monitoring Examples

A management station would consult this module to determine whether a given Nexus switch's agent implements the vPC peer-status and type-1/type-2 consistency-check groups from CISCO-VPC-MIB before attempting to poll peer-link state or role (primary/secondary) objects, avoiding failed GETs against unsupported vPC features on older software.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported vPC MIB object groups
  • vPC compliance level per platform/release
