Description: MIB for Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) System Event Log counter statistics on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) servers
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-BMC-MIB?
CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-BMC-MIB is part of the large family of Cisco UCS (Unified Computing System) MIBs that mirror the UCS Manager information model over SNMP, in this case covering the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) on UCS blade and rack servers. It exposes System Event Log (SEL) counter statistics gathered by the BMC, which is the low-level hardware management processor embedded on each server. This is squarely a hardware health monitoring MIB: SEL counters track accumulated hardware events (such as sensor threshold crossings, ECC errors, or fan/power faults) logged by the BMC firmware independent of the host OS, giving visibility into hardware faults even when the server OS is down or unresponsive. Like all cucs* MIBs it depends on the shared Cisco UCS MIB object-model conventions (instance IDs, distinguished names/Dn, class IDs) used consistently across the whole CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-* family. It is deployed exclusively within Cisco UCS domains managed by UCS Manager or UCS Central, polled by data-center infrastructure monitoring tools. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-BMC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-BMC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco UCS blade servers
- Cisco UCS rack servers
- Cisco UCS Manager/UCS Central managed environments
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll cucsBmcSELCounterTable/cucsBmcSELCounterEntry, using cucsBmcSELCounterDn to identify which physical server/component the counter applies to, and read cucsBmcSELCounterBitmask together with cucsBmcSELCounterCollInterval to see which event categories are being counted and over what interval. A rising counter value tied to a specific cucsBmcSELCounterEqptClassId/cucsBmcSELCounterEqptInstId would flag a specific piece of equipment (e.g., a fan or power module) generating repeated hardware events, warranting a check of the underlying BMC SEL log. This is distinct from live health status; it is an aggregated event-count view rather than a full text log of BMC alerts.
What Can Be Monitored
- BMC System Event Log (SEL) event counts
- event collection interval per counter
- event category bitmask
- associated equipment class/instance identifiers
- distinguished name (Dn) of the monitored server component
