Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco syslog message management MIB on IOS and NX-OS platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-SYSLOG-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-SYSLOG-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which features and object groups of CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB are supported by a given Cisco IOS or NX-OS agent implementation. It does not itself expose device data; instead it enumerates conformance statements used by NMS tools to determine which syslog-related MIB objects a particular software release actually implements. Because it carries no runtime objects, it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status -- its purpose is purely to document implementation variance across platforms and releases. It exists solely as a companion/dependency to CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB, the module that actually carries syslog message and severity data. It is used only by MIB-compilation and management-station tooling during capability negotiation, not for live device polling. Engineers can download the CISCO-SYSLOG-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SYSLOG-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral SNMP tooling artifact
- applies to Cisco IOS and NX-OS devices implementing CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB
Monitoring Examples
This module contains no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty) -- it is a pure AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance declaration, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; its only function is to tell management tools which parts of CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB are implemented on a given IOS/NX-OS version.
