Category: Alarm and Event Management, Cisco Devices, Device Management, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capabilities for Cisco syslog extensions providing enhanced message logging and filtering features.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which features of CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-MIB (Cisco syslog extensions for enhanced message logging and filtering) a given device/platform supports. It belongs to Cisco's system logging/diagnostics feature area. It contains only capability declarations, with no runtime data objects of its own. As a conformance module it does not directly expose syslog message counts, severities, or filter state — that lives in CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-MIB — its role is limited to describing supported logging-extension features per platform. It is fully dependent on CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-MIB, and it is used by management systems during capability discovery against Cisco devices using extended syslog features. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco devices using extended syslog features

Monitoring Examples

CISCO-SYSLOG-EXT-CAPABILITY has no sample runtime objects (sample_objects is empty); it consists of AGENT-CAPABILITIES statements mapping supported syslog-extension features to platform/release. There is no monitoring scenario for this module itself — an NMS reads it once during capability discovery to confirm which extended syslog objects it can poll on the device.
