Category: Cisco Devices, VPN and Security
Description: Manages Security Services Module (SSM) provisioning including policy and feature configuration for Cisco security appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-SSM-PROV-MIB?
CISCO-SSM-PROV-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB (under ciscoMgmt) that provisions features on the Data Path Processors (DPPs) of a Storage Services Module (SSM), a Fibre Channel/storage-services line card used in Cisco MDS-family switches. It models feature provisioning through ssmProvFeatureTable (available features and whether ssmProvFeatureNeedsImage requires an image), ssmProvFeatureIfTable (binds a feature to a port range via ssmProvFeatureIfStartPort/EndPort with ssmProvFeatureIfRowStatus and ssmProvFeatureIfForceRemove for forced resets), and ssmProvDppTable (the resulting DPP-to-interface-range assignments, entPhysicalIndex-indexed). This is primarily a configuration/provisioning MIB rather than a counters MIB, but polling it reveals which storage features are active on which DPP port ranges and whether a feature's row is still being provisioned or fully active — useful for confirming a DPP came online correctly after an SSM insertion. It depends on ENTITY-MIB (entPhysicalIndex) and IF-MIB (InterfaceIndex) for physical/interface indexing, and it is deployed on Cisco MDS storage directors and switches carrying an SSM module; administrators can download the CISCO-SSM-PROV-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser when working with these platforms.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SSM-PROV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco MDS-series storage switches/directors with a Storage Services Module (SSM)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls ssmProvDppTable to confirm which interface range (ssmProvDppStartPort to ssmProvDppEndPort) is associated with a given DPP name after a card reload, then checks ssmProvFeatureIfRowStatus in ssmProvFeatureIfTable for that port range; a row stuck in a non-active state after provisioning would indicate the SSM feature failed to come up.
What Can Be Monitored
- provisionable feature list and image requirements
- feature-to-interface-range bindings
- DPP-to-interface-range assignments
- row status of provisioning entries
- forced-remove/reset action state
