Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco CAS interface MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-CAS-IF-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-CAS-IF-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which objects of CISCO-CAS-IF-MIB (Channel Associated Signaling interface MIB) a given Cisco agent implementation supports, rather than defining any managed objects of its own. It carries no monitorable data itself; its role is purely to describe implementation conformance for CAS interface configuration and status objects reported elsewhere. It therefore has no direct role in hardware or software status monitoring, but is a prerequisite for correctly interpreting CAS trunk/timeslot status data exposed by the companion MIB. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-CAS-IF-MIB, whose objects it references and qualifies support for. It is typically used by NMS tooling and MIB compilers validating compatibility with a specific Cisco IOS release rather than polled directly by network operators. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-CAS-IF-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CAS-IF-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral capability-declaration module for Cisco routers with CAS trunk interfaces
- not a hardware-monitoring MIB itself
Monitoring Examples
A network management system consults this capability module during MIB compilation to determine which CAS interface objects (such as per-timeslot signaling state) are implemented on a particular router's software image before attempting to poll them. Since the module defines no sample objects of its own, its only content is capability statements cross-referencing CISCO-CAS-IF-MIB's object groups. An engineer onboarding a new Cisco access gateway into a monitoring platform would check this module to confirm CAS interface status polling will succeed on that specific software version.
What Can Be Monitored
- agent implementation conformance for CAS interface objects
