Category: Cisco Devices, Mobile IP, SNMP Framework
Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for Mobile IP home/foreign agent functions on Cisco routing platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-MOBILE-IP-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-MOBILE-IP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, not a data-bearing MIB, and it exists solely to document which parts of the CISCO-MOBILE-IP-MIB a particular Cisco IOS agent implementation supports. It belongs to the Mobile IP feature area, which lets a router act as a Mobile IP home agent or foreign agent for roaming IP endpoints. Because AGENT-CAPABILITIES modules contain no OBJECT-TYPE or NOTIFICATION-TYPE definitions of their own, this module exposes no runtime data and cannot be polled for hardware or software status. It is directly tied to CISCO-MOBILE-IP-MIB, the module whose implemented object groups and variations it declares. Such capability statements are used internally by network management systems and MIB compilers to determine, per device/software-release, what a specific agent actually implements before attempting to poll it. Engineers can download the CISCO-MOBILE-IP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MOBILE-IP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IOS router configured as Mobile IP home/foreign agent
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module rather than a data-bearing MIB, so it defines no pollable objects or tables; it exists only to declare which object groups and variations of CISCO-MOBILE-IP-MIB a given Cisco IOS agent implementation supports, and it therefore does not support a runtime monitoring scenario.
