Description: Declares agent capability statements for SNMP community string management MIB on Cisco IOS and NX-OS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SNMP-COMMUNITY-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SNMP-COMMUNITY-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents exactly which parts of the standard IETF SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB (RFC 3584) are implemented, and with what variations or limitations, on Cisco IOS and NX-OS SNMP agents. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module it does not itself define any object, table, or trap with runtime values; instead it is metadata describing conformance to another MIB's object groups. Because it carries no instantiable data, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status -- it is a static declaration consulted by NMS tooling to know what SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB features a given Cisco platform supports. Its entire purpose is to describe compliance with the standard SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB, so it is completely dependent on that MIB for meaning. It is typically used by network management system developers and MIB compilers to determine feature support before building polling or configuration logic against Cisco's SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB implementation. Engineers can download the CISCO-SNMP-COMMUNITY-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SNMP-COMMUNITY-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS and NX-OS routers/switches

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, not a data-bearing MIB, so it defines no pollable objects or tables and there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe. Its content is limited to a capabilities statement listing which SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB groups and variations Cisco's agent supports. Tooling would consult it offline, at MIB-compile or NMS-configuration time, rather than poll it against a live device.
