Description: Declares agent capability for Cisco Layer 2 control protocol tunneling and blocking MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-L2-CONTROL-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-L2-CONTROL-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which objects of the CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB a particular Cisco IOS agent implements, in the domain of Layer 2 control protocol tunneling and blocking (used to manage how protocols like STP, CDP, or VTP frames are tunneled or blocked across provider or access-layer links). It exposes no operational data itself; it only declares implementation conformance for the base MIB's tunneling and blocking configuration objects. Because it carries no runtime state, it has no direct role in hardware/software health monitoring -- its purpose is purely to tell a management application which L2-control-tunneling features are supported on a given device/software version before that management application tries to configure or poll them. It is inherently dependent on, and only interpretable together with, CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB. It would typically be consulted during MIB-compliance validation when deploying an NMS against a fleet of Cisco switches running varying IOS versions. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-L2-CONTROL-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-L2-CONTROL-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco switches running Layer 2 control protocol tunneling
Monitoring Examples
There are no monitorable runtime objects in this module; it is strictly a capabilities/conformance statement, not a source of live data. Tooling would cross-reference it against CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB object definitions to determine which Layer 2 tunneling/blocking controls are safe to configure on a specific device before attempting SNMP SET operations. No monitoring scenario applies.
