Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment, Network Interfaces

Description: Monitors SFP, XFP, and QSFP optical transceiver digital optical monitoring (DOM) parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-INTERFACE-XCVR-MONITOR-MIB?

CISCO-INTERFACE-XCVR-MONITOR-MIB monitors digital optical monitoring (DOM) parameters of pluggable optical transceivers, such as SFP, XFP, and QSFP modules, installed in Cisco interface slots. It exposes alarm and warning flag objects for temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, receive optical power, and transmit optical power, along with a transmit-fault indicator and a notification-enable control. This is fundamentally a hardware-health monitoring MIB: it directly reports environmental/physical-layer fault conditions of the optics module -- over-temperature, out-of-range supply voltage, abnormal laser bias current, and low or high receive/transmit optical power -- which are classic transceiver-health indicators comparable to power-supply or fan-health monitoring elsewhere in a chassis. It works alongside ENTITY-MIB/IF-MIB for identifying the physical transceiver and interface it applies to. It is deployed on any Cisco switch or router chassis using pluggable optical transceivers, especially in data center and service-provider networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-INTERFACE-XCVR-MONITOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-INTERFACE-XCVR-MONITOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco switches/routers with SFP/SFP+/XFP/QSFP pluggable optics

Monitoring Examples

cIfXcvrMonDigitalDiagTempAlarm and cIfXcvrMonDigitalDiagTempWarning report whether an installed optic has crossed its temperature alarm/warning thresholds; cIfXcvrMonDigitalDiagRxPwrAlarm/Warning and cIfXcvrMonDigitalDiagTxPwrAlarm/Warning flag abnormal received or transmitted optical power, typically indicating a degrading fiber link, dirty connector, or failing laser. An admin polling these per-interface flags alongside cIfXcvrMonDigitalDiagTxFaultAlarm can catch an optics module heading toward failure before the link actually drops, and cIfXcvrMonStatusChangeNotifEnable controls whether such changes generate SNMP traps.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transceiver temperature alarm/warning
  • supply voltage alarm/warning
  • laser bias current alarm/warning
  • receive optical power alarm/warning
  • transmit optical power alarm/warning
  • transmit fault status
