Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-MIB error-disable port recovery feature on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that declares which objects, groups, and behaviors of the CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-MIB a particular Cisco device or software release actually implements. The err-disable feature it describes governs automatic shutdown and recovery of switch ports that detect faults such as loopbacks, BPDU-guard violations, or link-flap storms. This capabilities module itself carries no runtime instrumentation; its role is purely to let a management station perform SNMP agent-capability negotiation, indicating support level rather than exposing hardware/software operational data. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the companion CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-MIB which holds the actual err-disable state and recovery-timer objects. It is used internally by NMS tooling and MIB compilers during capability discovery on Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, not by operators directly for day-to-day monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral in structure but Cisco-specific in content: applies to Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switches

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no runtime tables or scalars of its own (sample_objects is empty), so there is no monitoring scenario to describe here; it is only a conformance/capabilities statement referencing the object groups defined in CISCO-ERR-DISABLE-MIB.
