Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB (RFC 3433) as implemented on Cisco platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-RFC-CAPABILITY?
This module is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement describing exactly how Cisco platforms implement the standard IETF ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB (RFC 3433), which itself provides physical sensor readings such as temperature, voltage, and current for entities in the ENTITY-MIB. As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module it does not define any runtime data objects of its own; instead it declares which groups, objects, and variations of ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB are supported, partially supported, or subject to Cisco-specific limitations on a given platform/software release. Consequently it is not something an administrator polls for hardware/software status directly — the actual sensor readings are obtained from ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB itself once this capabilities statement confirms support. Its entire purpose is to document conformance to the RFC 3433 standard MIB. It is typically used by network management system vendors and Cisco engineers to determine, per Cisco IOS/platform version, which entity sensor objects are safe to poll. Engineers can download the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-RFC-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-RFC-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (RFC 3433) as implemented on Cisco platforms
- Cisco IOS/IOS-XE router or switch
Monitoring Examples
This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime monitoring objects of its own; sample_objects was empty and no realistic monitoring scenario applies. Its content consists of SUPPORTS clauses referencing ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB groups and objects rather than pollable instances. Any actual sensor monitoring (temperature, voltage) would be done against ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB, not this capabilities file.
