Category: Cisco Devices, Wireless and WLAN
Description: Manages 802.11 Location-Based Services on Cisco wireless infrastructure, tracking client location data and positioning measurements.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-DOT11-LBS-MIB?
This MIB supports Cisco's 802.11 Location-Based Services (LBS) feature on Cisco wireless LAN infrastructure, enabling third-party positioning applications to track wireless client locations via access points. It exposes configuration objects for LBS profiles, including the positioning server address/port, tracking method, packet type, multicast tracking, channel matching, and per-interface profile associations. This MIB is primarily configuration/service-status oriented, confirming an LBS profile is correctly provisioned and its row status is active, rather than exposing hardware health metrics; it is a software-service monitoring tool for the location tracking feature itself. It builds on IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN standards for its underlying data model. It is deployed in enterprise Wi-Fi environments using Cisco access points/wireless controllers where physical location tracking of clients is required. Engineers can download the CISCO-DOT11-LBS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DOT11-LBS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco wireless LAN controller/access point
- 802.11 Wi-Fi infrastructure with Location-Based Services
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check cdot11LbsProfileRowStatus to confirm an LBS profile (cdot11LbsProfileName) is active, and verify cdot11LbsServerAddress/cdot11LbsServerUdpPort point to the correct positioning server. Monitoring cdot11LbsTrackMethod and cdot11LbsTrackMulticast reveals whether client tracking is using unicast or multicast packet capture, and cdot11LbsProfInterfaceTable shows which wireless interfaces have the profile applied, useful for confirming location services are enabled on the intended APs.
What Can Be Monitored
- LBS profile status
- positioning server address/port
- tracking method (unicast/multicast)
- channel match setting
- interface-to-profile association
