What Is CISCO-DMN-DSG-VIDEO-MIB?

CISCO-DMN-DSG-VIDEO-MIB is a Cisco Digital Media Network (DMN) MIB for managing video decoding parameters and output-format configuration on the Cisco DSG-capable D9800 series digital satellite receiver, used in cable/satellite headend video distribution. It exposes a video control table (videoCtrlTable/videoCtrlEntry) with per-instance settings for output format (videoPVFormat, videoSDFormat), synchronization mode (videoTriSynch), cutoff behavior (videoCutoff), aspect ratio (aspectRatioSD, aspectRatioSelection), and closed-captioning preference (closedCaptionPrefMode), plus a parallel video status table (videoStatusTable/videoStatusEntry) reporting the receiver's current video output state. For hardware/software status monitoring, the status table lets an operator confirm the receiver's actual decoded video output matches the configured format and aspect ratio in real time, catching signal decode faults or misconfigurations at the headend. As a Cisco DMN-specific module for DSG (DOCSIS Set-top Gateway) video receivers, it is tied to Cisco's broader digital media/headend MIB family rather than any general IETF standard. It is deployed in cable and satellite headends where Cisco D9800-series receivers decode incoming satellite/digital video feeds for downstream distribution. Engineers can download the CISCO-DMN-DSG-VIDEO-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DMN-DSG-VIDEO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco DMN D9800 series digital satellite/cable receivers

Monitoring Examples

An operator would configure videoPVFormat/videoSDFormat and aspectRatioSD/aspectRatioSelection via videoCtrlTable per receiver instance (videoCtrlInstance), then poll the corresponding videoStatusTable/videoStatusEntry to confirm the decoder actually locked onto and is outputting that format. A mismatch between the configured aspectRatioSelection and the reported status, or an unexpected videoTriSynch/videoCutoff state, would reveal a decode or signal-sync fault on that receiver needing headend attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured video output format (PV/SD)
  • aspect ratio configuration
  • tri-level sync mode
  • video cutoff behavior
  • closed caption preference
  • actual video output status
