Description: Manages Device Level Ring (DLR) industrial Ethernet redundancy protocol on Cisco IE switches, monitoring ring topology and fault status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-DLR-MIB?
CISCO-DLR-MIB is a Cisco Industrial Ethernet MIB for managing the Device Level Ring (DLR) protocol, a Layer 2 network redundancy scheme used with EtherNet/IP in industrial automation environments. It exposes configuration and status data about ring topology, including ring identity, naming, network status, and gateway device participation. Its core value for monitoring is fault and hardware/software status detection: it reports ciscoDlrRingNetworkStatus and ciscoDlrRingDeviceState to reveal whether a ring is healthy, in a fault condition, or has activated its redundant path, and tracks gateway device status separately for ring-to-network bridging points. It is a Cisco-specific module built on top of standard SNMP notification conventions rather than depending on another vendor MIB, though it is meaningful chiefly on devices supporting the EtherNet/IP DLR standard. It is typically deployed on Cisco Industrial Ethernet (IE) switches used in factory-floor and process-control networks where fast fault recovery is critical. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-DLR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DLR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Industrial Ethernet (IE) switches
- EtherNet/IP Device Level Ring network nodes
Monitoring Examples
A plant network administrator would poll ciscoDlrRingTable, keyed by ciscoDlrRingIndex, to check ciscoDlrRingNetworkStatus and ciscoDlrRingDeviceState across all configured rings identified by ciscoDlrRingID and ciscoDlrRingName. A ring reporting a fault-detected network status combined with a changed ciscoDlrRingGatewayDeviceState would indicate a break in the industrial ring requiring the redundant path to take over, and would typically also raise a notification under ciscoDlrMIBNotifs. Continuous polling of ring device state lets operators confirm the ring has failed over cleanly without losing connected controllers.
What Can Be Monitored
- ring network status
- ring device state
- gateway device status
- gateway device state
- ring identity/name
