Description: Manages network adapter cards and their operational parameters on Cisco server platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ADAPTER-MIB?
CISCO-ADAPTER-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for managing network and I/O adapter cards installed in Cisco server platforms (such as UCS or MDS-style server hardware). It exposes an adapter table listing each installed adapter's index, type, serial number, and hardware/firmware/software version fields. This makes it directly useful for monitoring hardware status: administrators can confirm which adapter cards are present, verify their firmware/software revision level for compliance or bug-fix purposes, and detect unexpected hardware changes or missing cards. It is a self-contained hardware-inventory style MIB, typically used alongside broader Cisco chassis/entity MIBs for full server hardware visibility. It is deployed on Cisco server and workgroup-switch platforms that host pluggable network adapter cards. Engineers can download the CISCO-ADAPTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ADAPTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco server platform
- Cisco workgroup switch with adapter cards
Monitoring Examples
An admin can poll adptrTable/adptrEntry indexed by adptrIndex to enumerate every adapter card in the chassis, reading adptrType and adptrSerialNumber to build a hardware inventory. Comparing adptrHwHiVersion/adptrHwLoVersion and adptrFwHiVersion/adptrFwLoVersion against expected values reveals adapters running outdated firmware that need an upgrade. A sudden drop in adptrNumber would indicate an adapter card was physically removed or failed.
What Can Be Monitored
- adapter card inventory
- adapter hardware version
- adapter firmware version
- adapter software version
- adapter serial number
