Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco cable spectrum management MIB.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which parts of CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-MIB a given Cisco IOS cable release implements, rather than defining any management objects itself. Two capability statements are defined: ciscoCableSpectrumCapabilityV12R00, covering Cisco IOS 12.0 and supporting only the ccsFlapGroup, and ciscoCableSpectrumCapabilityV12R01Rev1, covering IOS 12.1(05)EC/12.2 BC and adding ccsSpectrumGroup and ccsUpSpecMgmtGroup along with a VARIATION capping ccsFlapListMaxSize at 8191 modems. This tells an NMS which cable-spectrum management objects — flap-list tracking of noisy cable modems, spectrum management, and upstream spectrum configuration — are actually available on a given CMTS software version. It depends on CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-MIB for the real spectrum and flap-list data, and is deployed on Cisco Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS) managing DOCSIS upstream RF spectrum, where operators consult the CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-CAPABILITY MIB when planning which spectrum-management groups a given IOS release supports.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CABLE-SPECTRUM-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms running IOS 12.0–12.2 BC cable images
Monitoring Examples
An operator checks whether a CMTS running IOS 12.1(05)EC reports ciscoCableSpectrumCapabilityV12R01Rev1 to confirm ccsSpectrumGroup and ccsUpSpecMgmtGroup are supported before enabling upstream spectrum-management polling; a CMTS reporting only the older V12R00 capability would indicate flap-list monitoring is available but spectrum management objects are not.
What Can Be Monitored
- agent capability/object-group support per IOS release
- flap-list group support and size limit
- spectrum management group support
- upstream spectrum management group support
