What Is CISCO-CABLE-L2VPN-MIB?
CISCO-CABLE-L2VPN-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB for Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN) services carried over DOCSIS cable networks, used on Cisco CMTS platforms. It exposes mapping tables that associate cable modem MAC addresses and VPN identifiers with internal L2VPN indices, as well as pseudowire configuration data including peer IP address and VCID for pseudowire-based L2VPN transport. Its monitoring value is largely in verifying that L2VPN software mappings and pseudowire sessions are correctly established, which reflects the operational (software) status of the VPN service rather than physical hardware sensors. It works alongside DOCSIS cable modem and CMTS interface MIBs and pseudowire/MPLS standards concepts to represent L2VPN state on the CMTS. It is deployed in cable operator networks offering business Ethernet/L2VPN services to enterprise subscribers over a shared DOCSIS access network. Engineers can download the CISCO-CABLE-L2VPN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CABLE-L2VPN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco uBR-series Cable Modem Termination Systems (L2VPN)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would look up ccl2vpnMacVpnIdL2vpnIndexTable, keyed by ccl2vpnMac and ccl2vpnVpnId, to confirm a specific cable modem is correctly mapped to its assigned L2VPN index. Checking ccl2vpnPWL2vpnIndexTable's ccl2vpnPeerIPAddress and ccl2vpnVCID against the expected pseudowire peer configuration reveals a misconfigured or down pseudowire endpoint. A missing mapping in either table for an active subscriber modem indicates the VPN service was never fully provisioned.
What Can Be Monitored
- cable modem to L2VPN mapping
- pseudowire peer IP configuration
- pseudowire VCID assignment
- L2VPN index allocation
