Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Cisco BERT MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-BERT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-BERT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a data-bearing MIB, covering Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) functionality on Cisco ATM/PXE service modules. It declares which groups of the companion CISCO-BERT-MIB are implemented by specific Cisco product modules, such as the Enhanced ATM Switch Service Module (AXSM-E) and Enhanced Processor Switch Module 1 (PXM1E) uplink. It exposes no runtime status itself; rather it governs whether BERT test-related objects (which would otherwise be used to monitor line/physical-layer test status and error results) are available on a given module. It is entirely dependent on the CISCO-BERT-MIB it profiles for the actual BERT test objects and results. It is used by network management systems to confirm BERT MIB feature support on Cisco AXSM-E/PXM1E hardware before attempting to run or monitor bit error rate tests, consulting the CISCO-BERT-CAPABILITY MIB to determine exactly which BERT groups are implemented on a given module.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-BERT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco AXSM-E (Enhanced ATM Switch Service Module)
  • Cisco PXM1E (Enhanced Processor Switch Module 1) uplink

Monitoring Examples

This module contains no runtime data objects of its own; it is a conformance statement mapping ciscoBertAxsmeCapabilityV3R00 to the CISCO-BERT-MIB groups supported specifically by the AXSM-E and PXM1E uplink hardware. It would be consulted by an NMS to confirm BERT testing support before issuing test requests against the underlying CISCO-BERT-MIB objects, not queried directly for status.
