Description: Manages Cisco BBSM (Building Broadband Service Manager) for hospitality broadband internet access.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-BBSM-MIB?

CISCO-BBSM-MIB supports Cisco Building Broadband Service Manager (BBSM), a software platform historically used to provision and bill hospitality-grade broadband and Internet access in hotels and similar venues. Rather than exposing polled configuration or counters, this module is a notification-only MIB that defines the structure of BBSM event traps and their bound variables. It is used almost entirely for fault and status monitoring: it lets a management station learn that a BBSM software event has occurred, what generated it, and when, rather than tracking hardware-level metrics like temperature or CPU. Because BBSM is an application-layer service, this MIB has no direct dependency on standard interface or entity MIBs, though the receiving NMS typically correlates events with SNMP-TRAP-MIB conventions. It is deployed on the Windows-based BBSM server appliance in hotel or MDU (multi-dwelling unit) broadband deployments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-BBSM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-BBSM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco BBSM broadband service manager server (hospitality/MDU internet access appliance)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure their NMS as a trap receiver for ciscoBbsmNotifications and inspect the bound variables cbbsmEventID, cbbsmEventType, cbbsmEventSource, and cbbsmEventDescription whenever a notification arrives. A cbbsmEventTime showing repeated events from the same cbbsmEventSource in a short window would indicate a recurring service fault, such as a billing gateway or authentication subsystem failing repeatedly. Because this MIB carries no pollable counters, monitoring is purely event-driven rather than based on periodic GET requests.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BBSM software event occurrences
  • event source identification
  • event type/severity
  • event timestamp
  • event description text
