Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNA and Legacy Protocols

Description: Manages Cisco ASPP (Async Serial Protocol) for asynchronous serial line encapsulation.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-ASPP-MIB?

CISCO-ASPP-MIB is a Cisco Systems proprietary MIB configuring ASPP (Asynchronous Security Passthrough Protocol), a generic passthrough mode for asynchronous alarm-monitoring-company protocols carried transparently by the router without error checking. Its port table, keyed by interface, records protocol, role, receive inter-frame timeout, device-address offset, end/start-of-frame characters, sequence-number-ignore flag, response/receive/host/connect timers, retry count, ENQ delay/disable, send-ACK, direct mode, and DCD-always flag. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm ASPP port timing parameters match the connected alarm-monitoring equipment's protocol requirements. It is deployed on Cisco routers carrying alarm-monitoring traffic via ASPP passthrough. Engineers can download the CISCO-ASPP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ASPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers (ASPP alarm-monitoring passthrough)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks asppPortReceiveInterFrameTimeout to confirm ASPP timing matches a connected alarm-monitoring panel's protocol requirements on a Cisco router.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ASPP port protocol and timing configuration
